Dear Directors of the ABC, Before the last election, Tony - TopicsExpress

Dear Directors of the ABC, Before the last election, Tony Abbott promised no cuts to the ABC, but the cuts are coming: perhaps ten per cent of the ABCs budget is in jeopardy. Lateline and the 7:30 Report are the two premier current affairs and day-to-day investigative journalism programs in Australia. They are critical to the maintenance of a healthy Australian democracy, through ensuring the Australian people have access to the most objective, impartial and well founded reportage, which only our trusted public broadcaster can deliver. I and most well informed people I know rely upon these programs, along with The Business (formerly Lateline Business) to provide a solid daily briefing into the workings of Australian government, policy directions, business, banking, industry and environmental issues. With any reduction in the resourcing and commensurate drop in breadth and depth of coverage of these issues, our democracy will inevitably fall prey to the overt biases of vested interests who hold sway over the commercial newstainment broadcast wasteland. Please dont dumb down the ABCs coverage of news and current affairs, it would be a damaging blow to the country we all love and the freedoms we all value so greatly.
