Dear Dorsey Granger, A week ago John Boehner quashed any hopes the House will do business with the Senates Gang of Eight bill with this statement: The idea that were going to take up a 1,300-page bill that no one had ever read, which is what the Senate did, is not going to happen in the House, Boehner stated. And frankly, Ill make clear we have no intention of ever going to conference on the Senate bill. So thats great. Boehners statement does not rule out the House passing its own amnesty. Moreover, many House leaders from both parties are pressing hard for their own legalization bills . . . and to dramatically increase legal immigration. Boehner himself has said many times that he wants some sort of immigration reform to pass. In late May, he went so far as to say the House must pass immigration legislation. And he was strongly supporting the Houses own Gang of Eight group as they worked an amnesty bill. That effort fell apart as American voters began to push back hard. So yesterday, Boehner bowed to reality and made his declaration that is so helpful to us. Behind the scenes, however, expect Boehner to push for some sort of House action as long as it does not involve the Senate Gang of Eight. The danger is far from over. A chief tactic of the open-borders crowd was to crush any hope that they could be defeated. Even many of our allies were ready to cave. But we told you we could still beat it. We rallied the opposition and convinced our allies that it could be stopped. Now, the media is claiming amnesty is dead. Lets not get too confident and play into their hands. After all, all those bankers and billionaires jetting into Washington arent wasting their time and influence on a dead bill!
