Dear Ericka, This is Aaron Boyle, board member of Health GAP. I along with two HG steering committee members - Johnny Guaylupo and Sean Barry - NY State Senator Brad Hoylman, and executive directors of some of the best AIDS service organizations in NYC, were arrested blocking traffic near the United Nations on the opening day of the UN General Assembly. Why did we block traffic? To send a message to the world that everyone should slow down and think about the fact that we could end the AIDS pandemic. We have the know-how and the tools, and with just a little more money, we could make it a reality. We were willing to risk arrest and put our bodies on the line because this really is a life or death situation for millions of people around the world. We can no longer withstand budget cuts that tear away access to treatment and lifesaving services for people in desperate need, while the 1% and big banks continue to make unprecedented and unnecessary profit. The Robin Hood Tax, if passed in the U.S., could generate up to $350 billion a year. That kind of revenue could end AIDS in less than 30 years, with money leftover to fight global climate change, create a massive jobs program, strengthen education and healthcare, and build housing. -Bravo to my friend and brother Johnny Waytoomuchinfo!
