In this article, it is suggested that forcing the infant to the breast might abolish the rooting reflex and disturb placement of the tongue. A healthy infant should have the opportunity of showing hunger and optimal reflexes, and attach to its mothers nipple by itself. There are a lot of mothers FORCING baby to the breast, which will cause pain in breastfeeding and ineffective breast milk transferred closely related to incorrect position of the tongue. So, NEVER FORCE BABY TO BREAST!! Just position and assist the baby when needed. Find alternative solutions when the current method is not working well. Remember, Mother shall focus on DIRECT FEED the baby NOT DIRECT LATCH the baby. Ensure baby is being fed, and there is sufficient breast milk transferred.
