Dear FB Rant Readers, I know all of you were very excited to read my thoughts on Dating and Politics. and I PROMISE to write about this very soon... Well, I have a more pressing issue on my mind now - Social Media. I am just so tired of people dissing on social media while being on social media. Its like I hate apples but I keep eating them. Anyway, I LOVE social media - and I will tell you why right now... 1. Social Media changes lives. You see/read/hear about it everyday! Someone that didnt have an opportunity but got discovered on Youtube or Twitter or Whatever 2. Social Media is a GREAT tool for struggling artists. Do you know how many jobs I have gotten just based on Facebook? From All the facebook job groups, friends blasting job opportunities, and just people reaching out to me based on my website/credits, #ShamelessPlugHere, for work. 3. Social media gives the unheard, forgotten, and easily ignored a voice. Movements have been created because of social media. Hello #BlackLivesMatter, The annoying Ice Bucket Challenge, etc. 4. Artists finally have a space. You can get funding for projects. You can get people to see your work. You dont need millions of dollars to reach millions of people anymore. You just need a Twitter account, A Vimeo page, etc. Yes, there are bad things about social media. Careers have died (See Bill Cosby, The racist lady that belittled Obamas kids, etc) And ignorant people have strived - Hello Duck Dynasty. Yes, you can have a bunch of ignorant people playing judge and jury and cyber bullying celebs. And Malcolm X is correct now - “The medias the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and thats power. Because they control the minds of the masses.” But, for ANYONE to think they are above social media is clearly living in the Dark Ages and just behind the times. These people dont have a grasp on reality and the social changes going on this country. Honestly, We all just have to just do better in this society and understand that social media has power. Understand how to use that power for good and not for evil. Social media has changed my life. It has given me jobs, a voice, and a venue for my work. I choose to use social media for good - having fun debates with my friends and promote my projects or just rant about life like I am doing now. You might not like social media but to not see its importance, to belittle it to seem counter culture or cool just mades you look outdated, old and just tired. ....And as we all know #NobodyLikesOldTiredPussy - its almost 2015 baby! Embrace the power of social media!
