Dear FB friends, Today is Thimphu Tshechu and Duserra or Dasain. For many years, I have realised that these two events always fall together. Today is Vijay (Win) Dasami (tenth day of Lord Rams intense devotion to goddess Durga (Penden Lhamo) and raging war against Ravan. He himself went to war on the tenth day and killed Ravan. According to Hindu calendar today is 17th day of the sixth month. In Hindu houses in Bhutan today, they celebrate with Tika of rice on the forehead pasted with mixture of yogurt and honey. This Tika is received from parents or most senior member in the family with lot of blessings for prosperity and fulfillment. Before the Tika is given to any member in the family...the first Tika is pasted on the top frame of the front door in the name of the King His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and the Queen Her Majestry Jetsun Pema with Prayers for Long, Healthy and Happy Lives. Each house then goes to the local Gup with some koseyli (lagtha) or gift of fruits especially banana, yoghurt, beaten rice and some money. It is considered by bringing him the gift it is like offering to the King as we believe the Gup is the Ambassador of the King Himself. On this special day, I wish limitless love, comoassion, peace, joy and happiness to all my friends. Let us together devote all our positive energies to pray for the wellbeing and happiness of our King, Queen and the Royal Family. Long Live our King and Queen.
