Dear Facebook Friends, Tomorrow is the big day! And I am only $1,200 short of my goal of raising $5,000 to End AIDS! Early Friday morning, I will join over a hundred other bicyclists as we set out on the Braking AIDS Ride from Boston to New York. As I have for the past two years, I will be riding Keith Cylar’s 30-year old hybrid Specialized to honor his memory. And all of the money I raise will go to support Housing Works’ efforts to bring an end to the AIDS epidemic. Just this past June, Governor Mario Cuomo, with encouragement from Housing Works and other AIDS organizations, announced a commitment to ending AIDS as an epidemic here in New York by 2020. In the next few weeks, the NYS Department of Health will announce a taskforce assigned to develop the plan to achieve this goal. When not training for the Braking AIDS Ride, I have been barnstorming the state, meeting with elected officials, leaders of AIDS organizations, heads of city and state agencies, and, most important of all, other people living with HIV, to talk about what this task force ought to recommend so that we truly see an end to AIDS.
