Dear Facebook family and friends, I have something to share with - TopicsExpress

Dear Facebook family and friends, I have something to share with you and am asking for your prayers. I have been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. I have been at IU Methodist. There I was given a CT scan, and a pulmonary volume test. 65% of my lungs are still viable. The rest has turned into a dry sponge like material. Pulmonary Fibrosis is caused by either environmental/occupational matter that I have breathed, or it is Idiopathic, which means it just simply happens, and there is no known cause. It is by far the most prevalent. It can be genetic. My dad died of Pulmonary Fibrosis, and his mother, my Grandmother had a similar issue. The only way to know which it is, is by biopsy. If it is discovered that I have the environmental type, the prognosis is that I will have a great chance to live a long normal life, as long as I stay away from breathing bad stuff, like asbestos, silicates, and other nasties. If they find no evidence of garbage in the biopsy, it would mean that it is Idiopathic, and I have been told that I would have 3-5 years of life. There is no successful treatment. Lung transplant is a possibility, but statistics show that only 50% make it to 5 more years, and it is a long recovery. So I am asking you to pray that this is environmental, not Idiopathic. I have breathed a lot of nasty yuck in my life on the farm, in the jewelry shop, in Louisiana, in old houses, in the dental lab. Megan and I will be going to Mayo Clinic in MN for the next phase of this journey. They are the best pulmonary hospital in the US. January 19, is my appointment, and we will be driving there on the 18th. Dont know how long Ill be there. Guessing they will want to get rid of me as soon as possible. Thank you, I love you all. Andy
