Dear Facebookland: I have a day-job question which is of a some - TopicsExpress

Dear Facebookland: I have a day-job question which is of a some what delicate subject matter, and I dont know where I stand or where my rights lie. Preface: I work in a specialized industry and was hired because Im bilingual, so my skill set is valued at this company. Since I started school, it was agreed upon that I could work remotely. This allowed me to fill in hours at odd times of the day answering emails, etc. The remote system has been dismantled last week for very good reasons not pertaining to me. It will eventually come back, but dont know when. My employer does not wish to replace me, but I am now constrained by the hours Im not in class vs the hours when the company is open. This means I cannot clock enough hours in a week. Ive been filling in the hours I need with my PTO. I feel a bit off about this because I rarely take time off and now my hard earned PTO is being eaten away when I would be glad to do the work. Do I have the right to not have to use my PTO in order to ensure I can pay my bills? Or do I have no rights because remote work is a privilege, albeit an earned one (as I still bring in numbers consistently and do a full time job in half the hours)?
