Dear Families, The Georgia General Assembly is currently in session and considering several bills related to the education of Georgia’s children. One bill that is currently waiting to be heard by committee is House Bill 680, the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) effort to take local dollars away from their charter schools to pay off the APS unfunded pension plan. Although the newly seated APS Board of Education voted last week to take this issue off the legislative agenda, the bill had already been drafted and submitted for consideration. We urge you to send a message to the House leader Stacey Abrams, the bill’s sponsor, encouraging her to withdraw House Bill 680 from further consideration. There are two easy ways to take action, notifying Representative Abrams. The first is by using your cell phone. Simply text HOPE APS to 52886 and follow all of the instructions to send an email to Representative Abrams.
