Dear Family & Friends, For over a year now I have had the privilege of working at Teen Rescue in California. There I have been working as a House Parent/ High School Science Teacher to troubled teens. At Teen Rescue there are two groups of students- 1) River View Christian Academy (RVCA)- Ones that choose the trouble they got into and 2) Girls that have been victims of Human Trafficking. All the students have grown very dear to my heart. I have absolutely loved getting to know them and being able to see the incredible transformations in their lives. As many of you know I have a deep love for Africa. This is where I came up with the “plan” to take my new found love (students) and my old love (Africa) and bring them together. For the last several months I have been planning, plotting, and constructing a mission trip designed for the female students that I work with from both programs. This September I will be leading a mission’s trip of 16 people to Uganda, Africa for seventeen days. The first part of our journey we will be traveling to villages north of Kampala. There we will be staying at a ranch that is a part of the Cornerstone Ministries. The ranch is a leadership school for youth. At the ranch the students will be teaching classes such as Bible and Health. While there, we will be working at a nearby village, were we will put in a water treatment system. I am truly excited about the opportunity the students have to work in a village and get their hands dirty. This is not only life changing for the people in the village but also for my students. The second part of the trip we will travel to Kampala where we will be working at two homes with Human Traffic victims. There we will be teaching classes on Art, Dance, Bible and Health. In African culture time together and getting to know each other can be one of the greatest gifts. Having both my girls and the Ugandans sit down and share their stories of pain, triumphs, difficulties, and the challenges that Human Trafficking victims experience is going to be an incredible chance to find connections and support on a global scale. One of my main goals is to build relationships and hopefully continue this trip yearly. Over the last few years I have learned and grown so much. I am humbled by Gods grace and mercy He has shown me. I never thought I would be where I am today, but now standing here looking back at everything, I could not imagine being anywhere else. I am thankful for God bringing me here and giving me a heart for Africa. I hope and pray that through this trip it will open the heart of my girls to ministry and provide them with a greater desire to help others in the world around them. The three main focuses of this trip 1) To serve and minister to others in need through Christ love, 2) provide opportunity for the students to learn new things about themselves, and 3) expose them to a new culture in a safe environment. The cost of the trip for each person is $2400. This includes travel, flights, food and housing. As a group we will be raising an extra $700 for the water treatment program for the village. Please, most importantly, keep us in your prayers as the trip comes together, and we travel and minister. If you are interested in helping financially you can use the donor card. Please make sure to entitle all payment options with “Megan Devaney Uganda Missions.” All donations will go towards this trip and village water treatment system. Anything extra will go towards cost of the trips of my girls. If you are interested in seeing where I work we have a website teenrescue. Or if you are interested in learning about the human trafficking program please visit FACESS website at FACESS. Thank you for your love and support. Without family and friends I would not be who I am today or have the incredible opportunity to share Africa with my students. Love with all my heart, Megan Devaney
