Dear Family & Friends, We are thankful for Dougs continuing - TopicsExpress

Dear Family & Friends, We are thankful for Dougs continuing fight against ALS. We praise the Lord daily for each precious day that he remains with us. He is a magnificent man full of grace, hope and love. The greatest of these is love. JC Doug has been a respected and talented teacher, father, mentor and servant throughout his life. Even in facing death he teaches and touches us with his intelligence, compassion and pure strength through Christ. We face the difficult but real decision of hospice. ALS is slowly reducing his ability to initiate breath on his own, weaken his muscles and is now starting to make what seems the most easiest of tasks, like zipping a zipper, a struggle. As we endure the reality we live in seeing our husband, father, brother, uncle, teacher, mentor and my hero bear such burden, he remains selfless to the end. Thinking of us instead of himself he is at a point where denial is past and heaven and reuniting with loved ones passed is ahead. He continues to fight but is losing that strong Swedish stubbornness and endurance to continue persevering. He will be making the decision to transition to home hospice soon. What does this mean? It means that he will no longer take tests or medicine to evaluate and treat his condition. Comfort care and a personal care attendant will begin. He is still able to be off his non-invasive vent for about 3-4 hours daily. The vent pushes air into his lungs and works as his diaphragm should but isnt due to ALS. He appreciates drop in visitors! Doug can still talk, eat and walk to the bathroom by himself but each activity takes his breath away. Our community of support whether prayer, visitors, financial, etc. has been truly amazing and a testament of his rich character and authenticity. I am so very blessed to have him as my worldly father second only to my heavenly father. He is my best friend, confidante and fellow horse addict whom Ive shared my successes, failures, hopes and struggles with all my 48 years of life. Part of me is dying too and I am sad and happy all at the same time. Hes taught me how to love when I havent wanted to, pick myself up when I havent had the gumption or strength to and, reminds me of how today is just what we decide to make of it. We said goodbye to Regent Sabronze +/ at the end of October after being part of our loving family for over 30+ years. He was ready to meet his maker and now roam in a golden pasture and is fully restored to health, happiness and all the sweet hay hed ever want. Dad and I visited afterward and we discussed heaven. He said I hope I ride better there! LOL What a character, eh? And what a reunion he will have with Bronze, Alabask, DB, Halle, Indira, Terri, Simla, Indigo, along with my mom, her parents, his parents, and a wonderful circle of friends and Jesus Christ. To help ease our load in continuing his legacy, we are selling 16 horses and would greatly appreciate your consideration for purchase or referral to a prospective buyer.
