Dear Family and Friends, A short note to let you know Dale has arrived safely in Dakar despite missing his connection in Dubai and having to fly to Kenya before Senegal. He arrived 3am Senegal time on Monday morning. Since then he has tried to gain some sleep and rest after a very long flight. The past few days have been productive, he has put up most of the deck gear and accessories back in place as well as cleaning from bow to stern down below. Tomorrow will see the sails fitted on all the rigging and booms replaced today. Dale has also managed to make arrangements for Shining Star to come out the water next week to clean and repaint the bottom of the boat as it is covered quite heavily with growth. Dale was more than pleased at Omar ( the security guard/cleaning guy) diligence and trustworthiness as the boat had been looked after very well. Omar slept on board each night, cleaned every day and ran the engine each day too to keep batteries and solar panels functioning optimally. We have some more good news: If you remember, we were running a R5 per mile fundraiser to cover our costs to sail from CT to Greece. When we departed we were at 55% well the fantastic news is that we have beem so wonderfully supported the past few weeks leading up to Dale returning to Shining Star that we have reached 100% !!
