Dear Fellow Rangers and Veterans: On this Veteran’s Day, I - TopicsExpress

Dear Fellow Rangers and Veterans: On this Veteran’s Day, I would like to take the time to remind everyone, that it has been only one year ago that the 16th Infantry Regiment sustained its most recent casualty in its 153-year effort to ensure the safety and security of this nation. CPT James D. Nehl of D Company, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry was killed in action in Ghazni, Afghanistan, doing what the American people sent him, and the rest of the battalion, to do. Both battalions of the regiment will deploy again sometime in 2014 and many of our guys will be in harm’s way once again. Many of you out there took the same kind of risks in WWII, Vietnam, Desert Storm Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and all of us understood that someday we might be facing an enemy army seeking to harm America, her people and her interests. In taking those risks we also understood that Freedom is not Free and that in order to maintain it, somebody has to stand in the gap between that freedom and subjugation. The person who does that is a Veteran and that is what sets him or her aside from the rest of society. It doesn’t make him or her necessarily better, it just makes him or her a VETERAN and that is a different and special kind of person in my eyes. Thank you all for all you have done to ensure America has maintained its freedom for 153 years. God bless you all on this Veteran’s Day. As a tribute to those who have served, please take a few minutes to watch this video, in which men of the 16th Infantry can be glimsped here and there. youtube/watch?v=r2RwRi2TjA0 Very respectfully, Rober B.
