Dear Freshmen, On behalf of SMEC 2014 Team: Invitation to the Opening Ceremony of the 10th Student Medical-Nursing Education Conference (SMEC) Saturday, 16 August 2014, LT27, Lim Seng Tjoe Lecture Theatre, NUS. The Student Medical Education Conference first began in 2005 as an event to equip future generations of doctors with learning skills and professional behaviour for their careers in healthcare. Since its inception, it has become an annual event jointly organised by the Medical Education Unit and the Academic Directorate of the YLLSoM Medical Society. This year, we are happy to announce that the 10th Student Medical-Nursing Education Conference (SMEC) will be held on Saturday, 16 August 2014 at LT 27, Lim Seng Tjoe Lecture Theatre, National University of Singapore. The conference will run from 0830 hrs to 1330 hrs, under the theme of “From Patients to Professionals: 10 Years Forward”. Our theme reflects the key features of our conference. Firstly, our committee is excited to extend this learning opportunity to Nursing students from the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies as per the previous year. All Medical students from other tertiary institutions – Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine – will also be invited to the conference. In our First-year Workshops, participants will get to interact with a doctor, nurse and patient, where the patient is the centre. Through the workshops, we thus hope that participants can appreciate differences and change in perspective of the healthcare setting as they progress from students to healthcare professionals in the future. The Scientific Competition, initiated two years ago, will continue this year where both Medical and Nursing students are welcome to submit their entries. 35 finalists will compete for top prizes based on a poster presentation. An education-friendly approach, this arrangement will provide a platform for all poster presenters to hone their presentation skills while receiving valuable feedback from judges. We cordially invite you to the 10th SMEC 2014 on Saturday, 16 August 2014. Registration begins at 0800 hrs at the foyer of LT 27, and we would like our guests to be seated by 0820 hrs. The programme begins at 0830 hrs at LT27, Lim Seng Tjoe Lecture Theatre, National University of Singapore. Refreshments will be provided at 0800 hrs and 1300 hrs respectively.
