Dear Friends A brief update on the flooding situation in Austria. It is mostly good news! In most towns and regions where major flooding occurred, the water levels have already receded significantly, often to pre-flooding levels and the clean-up work is quickly underway. Shops and restaurants are getting ready to re-open quickly. Many towns along the Danube have been spared major damage due to flood control systems that were able to withstand the record water levels. Vienna has escaped with very little damage, due to the vast flood protection system of the Danube here. Some 40 years ago we began building the Danube Island, a 13 long man-made island that is known to many as an urban outdoor oasis, but whose main role is to act as a flood protection system. Of course, the situation is still problematic and the damage is substantial. If you are planning to travel to Austria over the next few days, we advise you to check with us regarding road closures and train services.
