Bridging ICTs and Environment - Innovations in Disaster Risk Management (13 July - 17 July, 2015) Course directors: Viktor Lagutov, Systems Laboratory, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary; Armen Grigoryan, UNDP Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), New York, USA This course aims at bridging the gap between decision- and policy-makers and ICTs in the realm of disaster management and risk recovery. Bridging ICTs and Environment - Making Information Talk and Technologies Work (6 July - 10 July, 2015) Course directors: Viktor Lagutov, Systems Laboratory, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary; Mahesh Pradhan, United Nations Environmental Program, Nairobi, Kenya This course aims to bridge the gap between decision- and policy-makers and ICT technologies (e.g. GIS, remote sensing), making data and emerging technologies more accessible, usable, and relevant for decision-making. The Precautionary Principle: Governance of Innovation and Innovations in Governance (27 June - 4 July, 2015) Course directors: Ruben Mnatsakanian, Anton Shkaruba, Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary; Sybille van den Hove, MEDIAN S.C.P, Barcelona, Spain / Institute for Environmental Science and Technology, Universitat Autňnoma de Barcelona, Spain; David Stanners, European Environment Agency, Copenhagen, Denmark It is one of the four environment principles in the Treaty of the European Union, in which article 191,§2 states that Union policy on the environment shall be based on the precautionary principle and on the principles that preventive action should be taken, that environmental damage should as a priority be rectified at source and that the polluter should pay. Together these 4 principles –precaution, prevention, polluter-pays and rectification of damage at source– are central to managing risk to the environment, human health and well-being.
