Dear Friends, Cardinal Mueller – President of the Congregation for Doctrine of Faith in the Vatican, invited me for the programme on the Family. I wish to communicate my participation in the programme organised by the Vatican. In the modern world the family is passing through a difficult phase. Many young people in Europe and USA do not believe in marriage as a permanent relationship between husband and wife. Many of them also find it difficult to make a lifelong commitment. In such a situation, the matter of the Family has to dealt with, with great seriousness and this is what the Vatican programme impressed upon all participants. The meeting was first addressed by Pope Francis, who highlighted the value of the Family as a natural human community and it has nothing to do with manmade ideologies and opinions. The family is something natural created by God. The Holy Father called upon peoples of the world to respect marriage in its purity. There were internationally reputed scholars and religious leaders, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Jains. What struck me most was that all of them stood for fidelity, permanent relationship, care of children and their education. I was so happy to know that in essence the vision of the Church for marriage was defended and proclaimed by the speakers of various denominations and religions. It is not the Church alone that defends the natural and lasting values of marriage and the family. I felt so satisfied, happy and grateful with that inspiration and enlightenment. I have come back to the diocese to specifically address families in the diocese and to those preparing for marriage. The different speakers highlighted how marriage and family can bring special happiness and stability to married people. God bless you all.
