Dear Friends Christmas celebrations tapering off will get a booster dose with the weekend starting tomorrow. Instead of trying to recover from the twin blasts methinks it will be best to postpone recovery proceedings till the 2nd of Jan AFTER RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR ! I have had a very enjoyable ( at times hectic ) month of driving around the countryside.N N Sharma, a friend who like me retired from State Bank of Patiala recently , and yours truely left Bangalore on November 19th by car and came back on the 22nd of December after a 34 day 9176 kms drive. we drove to Hyderabad Nagpur Jabalpur Sagar Gwalior Agra Delhi Ludhiana Jammu Vaishnodevi ( from Katra to VaisnoDevi and back was on one horsepower !) Pathankot Bhakhra Nangal Anandpur Sahib Kiratpur Sahib Amritsar Jallandhur Chandigarh Patiala Hanumangarh SriGanganagar Bikaner Jaiselmer Jodhpur Udaipur Nathdwara Ahmedabad Rajkot Dwarka Somnath Gir Forest ( yes the lions did have a good look at us and decided we were not dinner materiel. we were not surprised as fellow bankers will agree khoon bacha hi kahan tha 35 saal bank mein naukri karne ke baad ! ) Vadodara Mumbai Pune Satara Kolahapur Belgaum or Belgavi as it is in its new avataar Dharwad Chitradurga and finally to homebase Bengaluru .( We have relocated to Bengaluru on the 1st of Nov as my better \ bitter half has been posted here as CGM of Bengaluru Circle of SBI ). The First Phase of BHARAT EK KHOJ is completed. Now onwards to Goa Mangalore Kanyakumari Trivandrum Kottayam Pallai Guravayur Aleppey( the boys from the backwaters are going to cruise the Backwaters ) to Rameshwaram Madurai Kodaikanal is to begin shortly. In case the janata thinks we are battered and bruised by the month long drive, nothing of the kind. We decided that in view of the Christmas NewYear holiday makers thronging the places on our route it was best to wait till the crowds returned to their homes before we left ours. Havent you guys heard the adage One who drives and runs away( from the maddening crowds ) lives to drive another day . The biggest bonus all through our trip was meeting old friends and making new ones. We cant thank enough hamare purane dost who welcomed us housed us fed us filled up our tanks ( the fuel kept changing ) and put us on our way again . THANK YOU So here we are fully recharged, car serviced( the dealer was surprised that the new car had done 10000 kms in 40 days , rarinh to go again. bye for now. Will update again.
