Dear Friends, Colleagues, Students and Athletes of Kent, If youre receiving this email, it is because Kent touched your life, either as a teacher, a mentor, a coach, or a friend. As you may know, in October 2013 the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education responded to over 150 letters describing Kents impact on students and athletes at Huron High School by voting to name the Huron track after Kent. On October 10th, 2014 at 630 pm we are planning a ceremony to unveil a plaque at the Kent D. Overbey track. The ceremony will be held prior to Huron’s homecoming football game and we invite you to join us in honoring Kent. After the ceremony, we will have a tent setup to allow folks to catch-up with Kent. Overbey Track @ Huron High School In conjunction with the unveiling, we are also asking for your help in further commemorating Kents remarkable contributions to Huron and to the lives of so many students, campers and friends he taught, mentored and coached. Nearly 20 years ago, the Kent D. Overbey Scholarship fund was established to help graduating male runners pursue their post-secondary endeavors. However, for the past several years, Kent has personally donated the funds to provide for the Scholarship – so in addition to commemorating the renaming of the Track we’d also like to revitalize the Kent D. Overbey scholarship. Heres how you can join the effort: (1) Make a contribution now by clicking on donate.kentscholarship and donating online MAKE SURE TO SELECT THE KENT OVERBEY SCHOLARSHIP -- as little as $25 or as much as you can spare will help ensure that students at Huron continue to benefit from Kents legacy for decades to come. You can help by funding the Scholarship Fund directly, and all of your donations are tax deductible. Every dollar donated to the Scholarship Fund will be used to help foster and support the academic and athletic endeavors of runners at Huron High school (selected annually by Kent and a Selection Committee in cooperation with the Ann Arbor Public Schools Education Foundation). (2) Help expand the contact list for the Kent D. We are seeking at least three contributors from each class, and we are hoping for a representative from all of the activities that Kent has been so central to will be present at the ceremony in October.
