Dear Friends, I am urging you to help Tony the Tiger, imprisoned - TopicsExpress

Dear Friends, I am urging you to help Tony the Tiger, imprisoned at a 24/7 hour Truckstop for the last 14 years. There have been numerous attempts to secure a better future for Tony, a Siberian Bengal Tiger. His owner, Michael Sandlin and his supporters claim that Tony is well cared for and that removing Tony violates Sandlins private property rights. There were so many seemingly exaggerated claims flying about (Removal is Illegal Seizure, The Tiger would be sedated, de-clawed and neutered), I was compelled to research this situation. I found: A) It has been illegal to keep exotic animals in Iberville Parish since 1993, that is 7 years before Tony was born. Sandlin had FOUR tigers; three were sent to a sanctuary long ago; Tony was left behind. Sandlin has ignored the law, expert assessments, and has been in non-compliance for many years. B) The wild cat sanctuary in Colorado, which is the only facility in the country that owns certified wild animal carriers, does not even sedate the animals to move them and has never lost one. Tony would not be declawed, he would not even be neutered unless there was some reason he had to be housed with females since no breeding is wanted, and there are hormonal alternatives although it is really a moot point. They are not even against the man having the Tiger, they are against the Tiger living at a Truckstop next to a Highway. It is an excellent professional facility as one can see via virtual tour: C) This is not about Bad Guys taking someones pet. It is about a man employing every behind-the-scenes trick and political coercion to try to place himself above the law and to maintain this Tiger in its miserable existence at his Truckstop. Sandlin convinced state Congressmen, using lies and bogus claims, to create a New Law! providing a loophole to allow him to keep his pet Tiger. Please, PLEASE call the Governors Office and ask Governor Jindal to VETO SB. 250. It is time for logic and reason and compassion to prevail, not lies and propaganda and red herrings. It is the last chance to let this Tiger, that has lived, dying of boredom, at a Truckstop in Grosse Tete since it was 6 months old, to be free of the fumes, light and noise it has endured - 24/7 !, its whole life, and instead go to a 700+ acre Big Cat sanctuary in CO. (which I daresay has a closer climate to Siberia than south Louisiana). Please call Governor Jindal 225-342-7015, ASAP, and ask your friends to call, too. Please share this, especially if youre local. Please help Tony.
