Dear Friends I got an opportunity to visit Harijan Sevak Sangh founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1932 to eradicate untouchability in India, working for Harijan or Dalit people and upliftment of Scheduled castes of India. It is headquartered at Kingsway Camp in Delhi, with branches in 26 states across India. Harijan Sevak Sangh also runs Residential Primary Schools. These schools are run only for schedule cast children in general and scavenger’s children in particular. I visited this school at Kingsway Camp Delhi and met children who study there and resides in hostel. The purpose of running residential schools is that the children should be kept away from the atmosphere they are living, so that they can learn in a proper manner along with other social and cultural activities. I came to know that Gandhiji’s Kasturba-Niwas After the Harijan Sevak Sangh was established in Kingsway Camp, this place virtually had become Gandhiji’s camp residence. Whenever Gandhiji used to visit Delhi, he stayed in this Campus. Kasturbaji and Gandhiji’s son Devdas also stayed in this campus. Devdas’s 3 children born in this campus. In fact this place is the real pilgrimage where Gandhiji himself spent a considerably long time on different occasions. Kasturbaji and other members of his family stayed longer time. The efforts of Harijan Sevak Sangh are to make this centre a hub of activities which can inspire the social activists and other public workers. All National Leaders of that era like Nehru, Patel,Maulana Abul Kalam Azad,Subhash Bose...you name any were frequent visitors to this place and also Britishers Viceroy ,Generals like Mountbatten and others used to have meetings here with Gandhi ji... A must visit place for all Indians specially Delhi Citizens ..the place was so near to my house..just under 2Kms but never visited before.. YOU ALL MUST SHARE IT... ITS MY HUMBLE REQUEST!!
