Dear Friends I have to tell you that our wonderful new Churchwarden Mike Demack has gone home to be with the Lord. This happened very suddenly at around 7.00pm this (Sunday) evening. In the very short time that I have known him, Mike became a wonderful friend, always smiling, always gracious, kind and encouraging. So when John Northam stood down as my Warden earlier in the year, Mike was a very obvious choice to succeed him. When I approached him, he expressed a certain terror (!) but very swiftly he settled into the role and has swiftly made his mark. He was hugely enthusiastic and Jean told me this evening that he was really thrilled and thoroughly enjoying being Warden. Standing outside the hospital with Jean and her daughter and grand-daughter, words very often spoken by my father came to mind. He used to say, “Sudden death, sudden Glory.” And in Mike’s case, I firmly believe that. He was a wonderful man, a loving husband and father, a great friend to many, but above all he was a follower of Jesus Christ – he was a wonderful Christian gentleman. It is hard for those of us left behind, but we can take assurance from the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, that “he who believes in me, though he may die, yet shall he live”. Tonight we believe that our beloved Mike is standing in the presence of Jesus to hear those words of blessing “Well done Mike, my good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord.” We pray for Jean and all the family at this time. I will advise you when I know more. With my love and prayers to you all Canon Quentin.
