Dear Friends, I would like to invite you to attend our Eighth Annual Memorial Day Celebration dedicated to Wounded Warriors. It is an event like no other. Rear Admiral Bruce L. Gillingham, Commander of Navy Medicine West, will give the keynoete speech. He will be joined by guest speakers Christopher Lawrence and Mark Zambon, both combat Wounded Warrior survivors. The observance will also incude a selection of patriotic and other music by the U.S. Navy Band Southwest, and a presentation of the navys symbolic two-bell ceremony honoring war dead, by the Carnation Chapter 3 of the Pear Harbor Survivors Association. The 82nd Airborne Division, San Diego Chapter, will present full military honors and the parading of the colors will be by the Naval Medical Center, San Diegos command color guard. Several local and state dignitaries rolling up their sleeves to serve the lunch in what has become an important component of La Vistas Memorial Day tradition. While the La VIsta event has its serious side, it has also become a celebration of life and an outstanding family event, as well as an important remembrance. It will include free good and beverages, an aerialist performance and a mini-zoo and pony rides for children. 1940s-era music will be provided by the Fantaastic Earrings.
