Dear Friends, Last year I wrote to you about a special woman - TopicsExpress

Dear Friends, Last year I wrote to you about a special woman named Rachel who couldnt feed her family or buy toys for her children for Chanukah. Rachel said she only asked for help because she could no longer watch her children suffer. She had no job, no savings and a future that she believed was hopeless. Today I am happy to tell you that Rachel has a job and her children just celebrated Chanukah by giving toys to other children in need. Rachel was able to turn her life around because of the help she received from our JCC. Our social workers counseled her, our food pantry supported her, our job coaches guided her - and she found the strength to face and overcome her challenges. All of these services were made possible thanks to your donation last year. You truly made a difference in Rachels life, and in her son Davids life, and in her daughter Tovas life. In fact, your donation helped improve hundreds of lives by allowing us to serve those in need in our community. But there are still hundreds more who need our help. And so once again, I am asking for yours. There are so many other Rachels living right here in our community; people who by no fault of their own have fallen on hard times, or who are struggling with a mental or emotional illness which they did not cause nor did they ever want. As I write this, I find myself thinking of another of our neighbors - a man named Leo. Leo is a Holocaust survivor who lost his family and friends in the concentration camps and who today is suffering from depression, as his health deteriorates and his will to live fades. For many survivors of the Nazi horror, aging brings out long-buried memories of a time when they endured atrocities so horrific that Ellie Weisel once described it as the end of the world. For them, our JCC offers special groups designed for Holocaust survivors, while providing specialized training for our social workers in engaging this particular population. As long as we have the means, we will continue to embrace people like Leo - like Rachel - and so many others who continue to turn to us in their time of greatest need. They turn to us because they trust us, and I in turn, am trusting you. Please make an end-of-year gift to the JCC, for by doing so you will make a difference in the lives of people right here in our collective backyard. Your generous donation will help the Holocaust survivors whom are still with us, while helping us to continue the mental health and caring support services that we have provided with pride for almost 35 years. Together we will make a difference. Right here. Right now. With my deepest thanks, Joel Block Click here to donate: goo.gl/fFXHHu
