Dear Friends, Now that it is official that Andrew Megill will - TopicsExpress

Dear Friends, Now that it is official that Andrew Megill will be the new Director of Choral Activities at UI, I can explicitly say: When you read his bio below, you will understand why – though I certainly turned to you for support in my loss (your responses to which have HELPED me!) – I would brook no indignation on my behalf. Of course, I know that any indignation expressed was an expression of your love for me and your estimation of my work. I’ll say this: If you’re gonna lose, you want to lose to Andy Megill. There’s no shame in that! And because I have worked with him in New York, I can tell you what I know, which is that he is a musician’s musician, and a mensch to boot. I’ll find my place. Just a little more suffering yet (apparently, as the tears come to my eyes again in this writing), then some rest, then some explorations… Love, K Professor Megill, currently on the faculty of Westminster Choir College, Rider University, is recognized as one the leading choral conductors of his generation, known for his passionate artistry and unusually wide-ranging repertoire, extending from early music to newly composed works. Professor Megill currently leads three of North America’s finest professional vocal ensembles: the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Chorus, the Carmel Bach Festival Chorale, and Fuma Sacra. He frequently prepares choirs for performances with the world’s leading orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonie, Montreal Symphony, National Symphony, and New York Philharmonic, collaborating with conductors such as Boulez, Dutoit, Frühbeck du Burgos, Gilbert, Järvi, Masur, Nagano, and Rudel. He will make his debut conducting the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in December 2014. Professor Megill is particularly admired for his performances of Baroque choral works. He regularly collaborates with pioneers in the field of historically-informed performance and has conducted many leading period-instrument orchestras. Professor Megill has previously served as Music Director of the Masterwork Chorus and Orchestra and Chorusmaster for the Spoleto Festival USA. He has been a guest conductor for the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, TENET vocal ensemble, the Juilliard Opera Center, and Emmanuel Music (Boston), and served as interim choirmaster for Trinity Church (Wall Street) in Manhattan. He has collaborated with the Mark Morris Dance Company, folk singer Judy Collins, puppeteer Basil Twist, and filmmaker Ridley Scott. Recordings of choirs conducted or prepared by Mr. Megill may be heard on the EMI, Canteloupe, Naxos, Albany, and CBC labels.
