Dear Friends, On November 7th and 8th, you are cordially invited to two events concerning John Trudell (Santee Sioux), an acclaimed poet, national recording artist, actor, and activist. Trudell was a spokesperson for the occupation of Alcatraz from 1969 to 1971, and served as Chairman of AIM from 1973 to 1979. Trudell began recording his poetry to traditional Native music, releasing his debut album Tribal Voice in 1983 and recording three albums with the late legendary Kiowa guitarist Jesse Ed Davis. The first of these, AKA Graffiti Man (1986) demonstrated Trudells singular ability to express fundamental truths through a combination of poetry, Native music, blues, and rock. Since then, Trudell has released seven more albums plus a digitally re-mastered collection of his early cassettes. In addition to his music career, Trudell has played roles in feature films, including Thunderheart and Smoke Signals, and he played Coyote in the television movie Dreamkeeper. He is also the author of Lines from a Mined Mind (2008) and Stickman (1994) among other works. Trudell will speak November 7th at 4:30 pm, with a screening on November 8th at 5 pm of the 2005 documentary Trudell about his life as an activist and artist. Both events will take place in Golden Auditorium, Little Hall, on the Colgate University Campus. Both events are free and open to the public. Please see poster attached. All good wishes, Carol Ann
