Srinivas of IMSc regarding the conduct of Mathematics lectures for School Teachers on October 16 and 17, 2014. Please go through the news as sent by Professor Srinivas. Dear Principal / School Representative: The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai, is organizing a two-day workshop entitled Enriching Mathematics Education aimed at mathematics teachers of higher/senior secondary schools. The workshop will be held on Thursday and Friday, 16th and 17th of October, between 9am and 5pm at IMSc. This is the third year running that such a workshop is being held. The broad goal of this series of workshops is to bring research mathematicians and school teachers together in an effort to enrich mathematics education in schools. (You will recall that IMSc is primarily a research institute.) Specific activities planned include lectures on school level mathematics from alternate perspectives, talks on pedagogy, and discussions related to the teaching and learning of mathematics. Detailed information about this years workshop will be uploaded as it becomes available on the workshops website: imsc.res.in/~knr/eme14/ The workshop is free. Lunch and snacks will be provided to all participants free of cost. A small travel allowance will also be paid. Certificates of attendance will be issued. We request you to nominate teachers from your school for this workshop by sending email to maths.outreach.imsc@gmail, latest by Monday, 13th October. There is no limit on the number you can nominate. Selection will be mostly on a first-come-first-served basis. We may have to stop accepting nominations even before the deadline if our capacity is reached, so we recommend that you send in your nominations sooner rather than later. Names of the selected teachers and their schools will be uploaded on the website of the workshop (URL as above). We recommend that selected teachers be granted on-duty leave to attend the workshop.
