Dear Friends, Thank you to all who helped make Saturday - TopicsExpress

Dear Friends, Thank you to all who helped make Saturday possible; to all who attended and generously donated for the fundraiser for the flood victims of Serbia, Bosnia & Croatia! I would also like to thank those who were not able to attend, but have contributed in other ways and generously cheered us on. Saturday, May 31st was a gorgeous summer day and we were able to create the event outside the beautiful facilities of St. Paul Church in Lincoln Park. We were excited to see that many families and individuals were more than responsive to help others in need, even though for many this was a cause they knew very little about, due to the lack of news coverage. The event was very meaningful and filled with collective joy for the fact that we came together as a group to contribute to an important and meaningful cause. Also, it was filled with sincere worries and best wishes for the future of Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia and all its people, especially those who are so dramatically affected by these unfortunate events. In total, we raised $1,239! We were also very fortunate to receive two large cars with gently used and new childrens clothing, shoes, and other necessities for donations. All of the clothing was driven to Brookfield which was then shipped to Serbia on June 1st. As we suggested in our invitation, we are about to invest the funds raised into the N. Djokovic Foundation ($991.20) as well as the Croatian Red Cross ($247.80). Official receipts from our donations will be posted on this page. I would like to individually thank Matt and Kelli Fitzgerald for suggesting a fundraiser for the cause and for donating space, to Dusan Pavlovic for graciously donating delicious food, to Minja Markus and Vesna Zafirovski for helping spread the news, to the Serbian Consulate in Chicago and its Consul General Mr. Radulovic for spreading the news and personally attending, to Croatian Consulate in Chicago and its Consul General Ms. Jelena Polic for attending, Mr. Armendariz (Principal of Lincoln Elementary) for sending the invitation to all Lincoln Elementary families, Lincoln moms for generously contributing their presence and clothing donations, to Ms. Moulton and Ms. Hernad for the support in their classrooms, Sasha Zanko for urging us to create a fundraiser as well as creating contact lists and general organization, to Emily Clark for helping with planning and execution, to Ivona Ateljevic for spreading the news and taking photographs, and to my husband Nenad Grmusa for delivering supplies and working tirelessly to make our fundraiser a success. Another thank you to all of our family and friends who were sending love through social media and other forms of communication. Thank you for all the brave and gracious individuals in Serbia, Bosnia, and Croatia and neighboring countries and beyond who are still working selflessly and tirelessly to help those in need. Our hearts are with all those who have lost so much in this tragedy and we hope that this tiny gesture of help that we were able to offer will be a seed for the new prosperity, health, and well being of all people in the Balkans.
