Dear Friends, The Jaffna District General Secretary of Ilangkai - TopicsExpress

Dear Friends, The Jaffna District General Secretary of Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK) K. Thurairasasingam has sent a registered letter to Mrs Ananthy Sasitharan, the popularly elected provincial councillor in the North, stating that she had been interdicted from the ITAK for having acted against the decision of the ITAK to support Maithiripala Sirisena in the Sri Lankan Presidential Election. Ms Sasitharan has ‘violated’ the party discipline by issuing statements, conducting a press conference and by making opinion contrary to what the party had decided. She is soon to face disciplinary action. Her crime was, as far as I can remember, she refused to violate the promises she gave the electorate during the NPC elections. Was a resolution submitted to the TNA Council to support President Sirisena , is another question. Please read the rest in the link below. tamilnet/art.html?catid=13&artid=37601 Mrs Arnanthi had always been with the people, whenever they were in need. Most of the top leaders in ITAK were never seen demonstrating with the people to highlight their problems. They were satisfied making speeches in parliament to which the Rajapaksa governments response was minimal, but Ananthy was different. Whenever the people were in trouble, she was there. This move by ITAK, at this point of time is ill-conceived and is more likely to affect the unity of TNA. Even to pass a resolution on what took place in Mullivaaikkal is a Genocide, is considered a crime by the top ITAK brasses. In spite of all her problems, Ananthy responded to the call by mothers of prisoners in Anuradhapura prison as you will see in the link below. tamilnet/art.html?catid=13&artid=37602 Meanwhile, ITAK Youth Wing leader VS Sivakaran, in a statement issued on Friday said that a section was conspiring against the Tamil national activists with a hidden motive of unseating the activists, who are not prepared to compromise the fundamental concepts of Tamil Sovereignty (thaayakam), Nationhood (theasiyam) and the Right to Self-Determination (thannaadchi). This is the crux of the problem. Regards, Visvanathan
