Dear Friends, The season of Christmas is fast approaching. This is the time to prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ, as the season of Advent inspires us. In the present day globalization, consumerism and materialism are on the increase. What is saddening is that Christmas is being reduced to a cultural celebration and there is much commercialism and consumerism around Christmas. A basic question to be asked is, what is at the heart of Christmas and what are we celebrating at Christmas? Certainly it is appropriate to celebrate with renovations, purchasing new items, objects and having fun and fellowship meals, get-together with near and dear ones. Such a celebration is part of our human and social living. But we cannot forget that the source and root of it all is Jesus Christ. Without focusing on Him, such celebrations will be a mere show and without proper significance. This is the first of my reflections as I prepare with you for the coming of Jesus Christ. But as I leave off here, I want you to think also what the nature of the coming of Jesus Christ is. Is it only the 7th Day Adventists and some other Protestant denominations who take seriously the coming of Jesus Christ? Is the second coming of Jesus Christ not at the heart of the Christian faith ? Think about it……..
