Dear Friends, This is a very Important Mail and request you to read till the end. Just one initiative by you can save crores of animals being slaughtered in India. In July, 2011 there was a proposal by the govt. in 5-Year Plan to open over 50,000 slaughter houses in India and modernising the present abattoirs. But due to mass opposition by various NGOs, this demand was postponed. Again this year same demand has been kept by the 5-Year Planning Commission. (FYPC) The Organising Committee (OC) is preparing the 12th FYP. For this, the Central Govt., is allocating different jobs to different ministries to present their opinions and suggestions regarding future planning. In this regard, the Agriculture Ministry’s Animal Husbandry and Dairying dept has submitted a plan. This dept. has prepared a report (Copy of which is attached) which will send shivers down your spine. Their proposal includes: Rapid increase in growth of Slaughter Houses, Modernising the present ones, with latest technologies that will crush, a living and an innocent animal, in few seconds, to death, To lift ban on 63-year old Cow- Meat export. This is purely due to our weak opposition towards export of meat of Sheeps, Goats, farm animals, sea animals and buffaloes. This step is now surprising as Govt has appointed Dr. S. K. Ranjan as the head of this planning commission. Ironically, Dr. Ranjan is the Director of Hind Agro Industries which is one of the largest meat export co. in India. The commission also includes Dr. N. Kondaiah, who is constantly working on Meat Research in India. Since last 3 FYPC, the govt. has been appointing Governmental and Non Governmental members but this time govt has made a smart move of involving only govt. members for this job, so that this ordinance is smoothly approved without any public outcry. We as animal lovers, culture lovers, environment lovers and uncruel humans need to strongly oppose this proposition. If not opposed, the export ban will be lifted forever and we can never stop it again. You can register your strong opposition to the following concerned. I want to hereby register my strong opposition to the below mentioned steps in the same, 1) Rapid increase in growth of Slaughter Houses, 2) Modernising the present ones, with latest technologies that will crush, a living and an innocent animal, in few seconds, to death, 3) To lift ban on 63-year old Cow- Meat export policy. India is a country of Mahavir and where the father of the nation is Mahatma Gandhi who gave independence to India through Ahimsa (non-violent means). India has no need for the above as it is traditionally a vegetarian country and the country has no need to become cruel to earn additional revenue. I strongly urge you to discontinue and drop any plans as mentioned above. Regards, Nishant S Shah Sion, Mumbai
