Dear Friends and Parents of Dearborn, I wanted to update you on the situation regarding our meeting this past Thursday at Salina Intermediate School and the unacceptable behavior and foul outburst from our Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent Mr. Brian Whiston. I understand that the Dearborn Public School Board is aware of the incident and have started an investigation into the matter. I first want to thank all those out there who took the time to contact School Board Members to express their deep concerns and shock regarding this incident. We should never let any person in authority talk down or use foul language towards parents, residents, or any employee just trying to advocate and do what is in the best of our children and community. The worst thing for me about this whole incident was that I found out yesterday that an 8 year old child was in the conference room with his mother during the meeting and had to leave the room covering his ears with his hands when Mr. Whiston went on his foul outburst. I was unable to notice the child because of the position I was sitting in at the table, which was facing the other people around the table and the wall behind them. I only learned of the child being at the meeting the next day from a resident who had attended the meeting that evening. Mr. Whiston had been sitting in a seat that put him in a position to see most of the room and those who walked in or out of the room. I cannot say that he seen the little boy prior to his outburst, but I find it hard to believe that he did not see the little boy and his mother walking into the room or sitting in the back of the room from the position he was sitting in. The situation is now in the School Board’s hands, they know that there is no justification or place in our school district for this type of behavior from any employee with or without authority. I know that the School Board will not have an answer to this investigation by Monday evening and they probably will not answer questions regarding this incident, so I will not address the Board this Monday because it is not just about me and any dislike or hatred Mr. Whiston may have towards me, there is a bigger picture we must address and focus on. But if the Board takes no action regarding this incident in a reasonable time span and which is satisfactory to all parents, residents, and community activists in the district, then we must confront them and make a stand or it will continue and other officials in this city with some authority will feel they can step all over us. I will keep updating you and please contact your School Board Members if you feel this is unacceptable. Silence does not help make things change, Thank You for your kind words and support !
