Dear Friends of Nainital Nostalgia, I am a very new member and have thoroughly enjoyed all the posts and pictures that are posted here so far. I am, however, going to take the liberty of going slightly off track from the groups main subject and my sincere apologies in advance. It will be perfectly acceptable to me if the group admin decides that this post is irrelevant and deletes it, it is his legitimate right. I have been a visitor to Nainital since 1972, when I was only 2 years old, a student at Sherwood College for 10 years (1978-88) and a resident on Ayarpata (St.Leonards) since 1984. My grandfather Jwala Datt Belwal was a postman at Mallital P.O. since the 1940s, while his younger brother pulled a hand rickshaw and my father Late Mahesh Belwal and his brothers studied at CRST college until 1951. So I am as Nainital-ite as they come. A recent incident at my alma mater Sherwood College, has left my fellow alumni and me in shock. The sad and tragic death of Shaan Prajapati, a 14 year old student of Class 9 who we believe died due to the utter negligence and callousness of the School management on Nov 14. He was the only son of Kathmandu resident Neena Shrestha, a single mother, who believes she was continuously lied to by the Schools Principal on Shaans condition. While a formal criminal investigation is already under way, some local Nainital residents have organized a candle light march from Tallital as a show of support for Neena Shrestha and #JusticeForShaan at 5:00 pm tomorrow Nov 22 beginning at Tallital bus stand. A second candle light vigil is being organized by Old Sherwoodians and current & former students of all Nainital Schools on Nov 29th beginning at 3:30 pm where ex students from all over India will be participating. May I urge all group members to please lend your support to these 2 events and join this peaceful show of strength for Shaan in large numbers with your friends, families, extended families and anyone else you can convince to join. We urge you to do this for little Shaan, a son that Nainital had welcomed into its arms, a son who deserves justice. This cause means a lot to us and your participation does too. Sincerely, Vipin Belwal +91.98110.25409
