Dear Friends of Small Farmers ( especially the Falster’s ) and REAL FOOD! We have pastured chicken available , being grown for Falster Farm as well as our gourmet pork back from the butcher and ready to share. Please let your friends know about our pork and chicken. We get a lot of questions about why our costs are higher than ‘grocery store’ pork, here’s a little information: This pork is from pigs born on our farm, raised on our pastures, in sunshine. Our pigs are hand fed daily a ration of raw milk that we make by-weekly trips to the dairy to pick up in 55 gallon drums. Not only do we load the milk by hand, we hand clean all the buckets the dairy keeps the milk in for us after we pour off the milk into the 55 gallon drum ( climbing up and down the back of the pick up to do so). We bring the milk back to the farm and off load the barrel and feed out of it manually every day, twice a day to supplement the feed our placid porkers are receiving which includes vegetables from the garden, raw cheese and no-soy, non-GMO feed which we pay 15.50 per 50# and it takes 1000 pounds of feed to reach slaughter weight. As you may know, pigs cannot sweat, so they have to be near mud or water, our pigs have both, a large mud bath and our ¼ acre pond are at their disposal. They enjoy their run in our paddock and electric fencing so they are protected from wild hogs and other predators but have free reign with plenty of clover and Bermuda as well as other in-season grasses. They get along with chickens ducks and cows. These are a heritage breed cross: Red Wattle with Large Black and are vigorous in their constitution, friendly and smart. The only way we can handle sending them off to the abattoir is knowing we are providing the BEST life possible for these animals and in return they provide the best meat possible for us and those fortunate enough to buy our Falling Star brand meat. Animals are for food and these pigs become the best pork you’ll ever try. The meat is red, not washed out white and has flavor and taste. They are not juiced with chemicals but juicy as you prepare your delicious pork chop or pot roast. Now for the Pastured Chicken: We have a fellow farmer who is growing birds the way we do, no GMO or hormones and the birds get sunshine and plenty of bugs so we have contracted with them to grow for us because they have a USDA slaughter operation they run with their children. These birds are handled much the same way as our pigs, they are moved to fresh pasture regularly and given clean water and feed daily. From chicks to chickens they are taken care of twice a day, every day and butchered in small batches so there is minimal stress.
