Dear Friends of the Chester County Historical Society, As we - TopicsExpress

Dear Friends of the Chester County Historical Society, As we begin 2015, I encourage you to consider how incredible the collection of the Chester County Historical Society is. I marvel at it each time I conduct research in the library, walk into the busy curatorial workroom, or wander through our galleries. Our collection just got stronger due to a major new acquisition. Thanks to the foresight of donors who included CCHS in their estate plans many years ago, CCHS was able to acquire the original manuscript ledger of General Mad Anthony Wayne. The work documents his tannery business from 1774-1783, including buyers of his products that were known Continental officers in the American Revolution. It also includes instructions for caring for the farm while he was unable to oversee its operations. Works such as Waynes account book are one-of-a-kind windows into the nations social history during a tumultuous time. Like CCHSs other treasures, it will be made available to researchers, used for future exhibitions, and possibly shown in documentaries or loaned to other museums. As CCHS looks to make even more of our collection accessible and enhance our preservation goals, remember that the Library is closed for our Big Dig through the month of January. During that time, we invite you to explore our permanent exhibitions as the rest of the museum is open and FREE until February. So this is the perfect time to stop in, check out our permanent exhibitions, play in the history lab, and pick up something in the gift shop. If you wish to contribute to CCHSs efforts to collect, preserve, and make accessible this extraordinary collection, consider a gift to the 2022 Collections Support Fund. Donations help provide support for CCHSs growing preservation needs and ensure that we meet our mandate to care for these collections in perpetuity.
