Dear Friends of the First Amendment: We need your help. In the past several years, we have lost almost $800,000 in funding from the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County. That used to be about 80% of our total annual budget. We continue to help our community learn video production skills and to share their messages over cable television and the Internet -- no matter their point of view. We tour children and encourage them to become a part of the media landscape -- not just observers. We produce and air public service messages and programs for and/or about our local non-profits and governmental agencies -- conveying information on resources available to those in need. We have covered local events so that shut-ins may feel a part of the community -- even if they can’t attend in person. We promote the importance of the First Amendment locally and globally, giving voice to all sides of local issues and concerns. Programs produced by staff and community members educate, enlighten, entertain and increase understanding of differing viewpoints and religious beliefs -- one of our major goals. Were happy to have increased minority membership and to have made new friends while also holding on to our old friends. But, we need you and all those who care about and believe in the importance of community media, particularly now when mainstream media consolidations and mergers have resulted in an almost complete absence of local community coverage. That is the void that we fill.
