Dear Gilbert, I was once an ex civil servant who worked two jobs (as a part time taxi driver ) so that we can afford a car for the family. My wife don’t pay for the instalments, petrol and maintainance of the car but we share the household expenses.. My wife is also a civil servant, she earns more than me but she pays lesser in monthly HDB instalments for our matrimonial flat. Her wilful behaviour caused me to lose my civil servant job and even accused me of threatening her with spousal abuse which is not true. Many issues happened later on but cut long story short, one fine day when I was checking her bags to retrieve back my car alarm which she kept away on purpose and a tussle over the bag followed, she claimed spousal abuse and called police. I told her the consequences of her actions and she said I was threatening her. I was investigated and found moonlighting as a taxi driver. And I was forced to resign when my case concluded. So I was suddenly reduced from a middle income earner to the low income bracket.
