Dear Great Umu Anioma, With the start of the New Year, I want to send this message to extend my heart felt greetings and appreciate you all for your accomplishments and achievements for last year. Last year was no doubt a challenging year; thank you for your effort, support, resilience and commitment. Part of the experience from some of these challenges for us has been the joy of finding new ways of doing things which ordinarily would have required tons of resources to accomplish. We are cutting corners and getting the job done in the process with limited resources. My special thanks to our dedicated and committed members of this year’s Convention planning Committee, as we had our most successful Convention till date and also made history by successfully hosting the first Miss Umu Anioma Beauty Pageant despite the challenge of getting sponsorship. In spite of all the challenges, I am happy to report to you that the State of Anioma Union is STRONG! We have made noticeable progress with both of our short term goals i.e., Delta State Governor from Anioma and the Creation of Anioma State as the 37th State in Nigeria. Many of you may be aware that the National Confab in its final report recommended to the Nigerian Government that Anioma State should be created as a new State in Nigeria. Also on the local front, distinguished Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa; our son in whom we are well pleased, was nominated by the dominant Political Party in Delta State, the People’s Democratic Party as it’s Governorship Candidate in the 2015 Governorship election. Our work is however not done as we have important Presidential and Governorship elections coming up next month. In all of this our greatest challenge has been one of disunity which is often the result of greed and the over ambitious nature of our political class. Case in point is with the issue of Anioma having a consensus Anioma candidate for the Delta State Governorship election. Anioma Congress under the leadership of our well respected Anioma Monarch set in motion a process which many agreed was essential considering what kinds of odds we were facing in Delta State with our neighbors. After the list of Governorship were pruned down by the Anioma Congress process, we found out that the list of Anioma sons and daughters contesting for the Governorship continued to increase as the time for the Primaries got closer with no one backing down. So on December 7, 2014 we sent this message out to Umu Anioma appealing to all concerned to make sure that the process that Anioma Congress started to help us accomplish our set goals is not doomed by the greedy and over ambitious members of the political class. We suggested that it was time to light one candle and urged them to decide amongst themselves whom the strongest candidate is and for others to step down for that strongest candidate etc. Quote: Our 3 shortlisted candidates now have to call each other and resolve amongst themselves who will take the seat while the other2 will be compensated equitably. We MUST not let this opportunity slip us by. Unquote: Folks, it is only by providence and divine intervention that distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Okowa emerged as the nominee of the People’s Democratic Party. Now, 750 Million Naira after, and several decamping to other parties there is a lesson in it for all of us, especially to our political class. It takes more than money to win ANY election whether party election or general election. There must be some connection with the ordinary people. This is not the time to be pointing fingers. In fact it is my prayer that there will NEVER be a time to be pointing fingers but one fact that we know is that the candidate that spent the most money during the PDP Primaries was not the one that won the ticket; a fact that those involved in the process need to chew one. Our common enemies were defeated as we were fortunate to have distinguished Senator emerge as the nominee. We must continue to push and work hard to deliver him in the general election where he will be facing a formidable opponent from the opposition party. The Umu Anioma Foundation as you all may be aware has embarked on a grassroots campaign in Delta State like no other in the history of existence as Anioma people. We have distributed over 10,000 Okowa posters and are about to go on air with radio jingles. In the next week or less we will launch the ifeanyiokowa2015 as a portal to showcase all the accomplishments of our soon to be Governor of Delta State. Umu Anioma we MUST close ranks and unite no matter what differences we might have. The Umu Anioma Foundation on its part will be looking to work to work closely with Anioma Congress and Izu Anioma in finding common grounds where the well-being of our great Anioma peoples can be uplifted. I believe that the key to the UNITY of our people can be found in the Umu Anioma vision of reconstructed value system for the common good of all. I want to use this opportunity to call on all Anioma sons and daughters running for political office to please close ranks and offer distinguished Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa ALL their support. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that we MUST not let slip us by under no excuse. I must also warn that we will hold accountable any Anioma indigene who fails to recognize the importance of this opportunity as there will be grave consequences for anyone no matter how highly placed if they fall in line and offer their unalloyed support to the next Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa. My New Year prayer for you is that Almighty God will shine his light in our path, make all things new, bring hope alive in our hearts and cause our spirits to be born again. We pray for our Political leaders, especially the soon to be leader of our great State distinguished Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, please shine your light in his path and bless him with wisdom and good health and all that he will need to be the best Governor that any State in Nigeria would ever want.
