Dear Heartland, Thank you for your prayers for us and - TopicsExpress

Dear Heartland, Thank you for your prayers for us and financial support. We are grateful to the Lord and to you for your kindness. Not long ago I was reading in Exodus about Moses collecting contributions for the building of the tabernacle and its furnishings. Exodus 35:21 says, “And they came, everyone whose heart stirred him, and everyone whose spirit moved him, and brought the LORDs contribution to be used for the tent of meeting, and for all its service, and for the holy garments.” Thank you for having that same spirit, for being stirred and contributing to the Lord’s work. We are humbled by your kindness. I have almost finished the first semester of Hungarian at the language institute here in Budapest and have now signed up for the second semester which begins in February. I’ve also just met with a tutor and made arrangements to meet once a week for conversation practice. In class, we get a lot of information, but there is not much time to practice speaking, so this time with a tutor one-on-one will be so valuable. She is an elderly widow of a Baptist pastor who was very instrumental in church planting with Pioneers in the early days. She’ll be able to teach me some spiritual and biblical terminology as well, something I can’t get at the language institute. It is always interesting to see how different languages express concepts. For example, literally translated, “They need to work” in Hungarian is “To them, it is necessary, to work them.” Or “I need to lie down” is “Down, it is necessary to lie me.” We are so very grateful to have a vehicle again, after waiting three months since our first one was stolen. We received more than enough money to pay for a used van and get it imported, registered, serviced, tagged, etc. and also to install an immobilizer so it cannot be stolen. It is a reminder that our treasures are not on this earth. We can get excited about and enjoy material things (and I did enjoy the heated leather seats and the cruise control in our first car! J), but they can very easily be taken away. Moth, rust, or in this case, thieves, can and do break in and steal. Please pray for me to continue to make progress in learning the Hungarian language. This is a very important first step as it is important to know the language of the country in which we live, and also since it will be the contact and common language for starting work with the Bayash Roma (Gypsies) who live in Hungary. Please pray also for the Lord to raise up those who speak the Bayash dialects so we can train them and work with them to translate the Bible into their dialects. We are grateful that a test booklet with five passages from the Gospel of Luke has been prepared, but at this point we don’t have workers to be able to go out and check it with those who speak Bayash as their mother tongue, a necessary step to make sure that the translation is accurate and understandable. I have been working on learning Hungarian before moving on to also learn the Bayash dialects, though tomorrow afternoon we also start our first language classes in Bayash. I will continue to mainly study Hungarian while also slowly adding Bayash. We would appreciate your prayers. We are grateful for you as Moses was grateful for those who served by contributing for the tabernacle. Todd P.S. See here for some pictures of the family: toddprice.wordpress
