Dear Homeowner with guns ready to shoot people in the line of protecting your family and property: THINK. Can I dial 911 instead of answering the doorbell at 3 a.m. when I know its a stranger out on my porch? THINK. I know its going to seem difficult and it most definitely will be difficult to THINK. So maybe you could run a couple of scenarios through your brain in advance. I dont say this because I think you are wrong to protect your property and family. You are not wrong. But, you could find yourself in the position of being charged with murder and/or manslaughter if you shoot someone who has not actually walked inside your home. I believe dialogue is needed between law enforcement and citizens so that people protecting their property and family know what they might be facing if they decide to pull a trigger.
