Dear Jenifer Musisi, I have lived and worked in Kampala for the last 18yrs and since I have a very critical mind, I genuinely can say you and your team despite the challenges have done and are continuing to do a fantastic job for this city Kampala. I have also heard returning tourists talking of a changing city, something I appreciate. I also want to encourage you by saying a revolution is never a dinner party so dont expect us to be nice to you and your team all the time and yes, that helps you even do a better job and by the way, every time a KCCA tax invoice comes to my desk, I clear it very fast because I can see the tangible benefits. Anyway, the above is a synopsis (hehe) of what I think of KCCA!!! I am writing to info you that I have been reading about how cities can position themselves for Urban tourism and yes, I know you have already started putting some focus in that direction through The Kampala Carnival etc but I think I can open your eyes to new possibilities based on good examples around the world. I believe that Kampala can easily be the entertainment city of East Africa and probably Africa and here am basing my thoughts on the diversity of culture of Ugandans as a whole. According to UNWTO every 10 tourists create one permanent job and yes, if we received say 3 million which is possible over 300,000 jobs will be created for our unemployed youths and yes, a good example is the Uganda martyrs week which attracts close to 1 million tourist without any serious marketing. Nigeria alone has over 24 million Catholics who can potentially be our tourists and here we can attract at least 2m during a whole yr that is if we make sure the Namugongo affairs happens every month. I know some guys are thinking Nigeria? Yes, Nigeria, research has shown that that country is registering 1 millioneer in dollars everyday making 356 millioneers in a yr. Ok let me not take you through this on page but can meet up and expound on this early in the year!!! Make sure u read the attached as well Best regards, Amos Wekesa
