Dear Kenilworth Team Our next joint team meeting is on July - TopicsExpress

Dear Kenilworth Team Our next joint team meeting is on July 15th at 7:00 pm and there has been a venue change from the 541 Cafe on Barton to Mission Services, which is located at 196 Wentworth Street North. As an update, I feel that last night’s Public meeting went very well. There was good feedback given during Q/A, with residents, businesses owner/operators, and developers adding their input. Notable to me was how well informed many seemed to be on some of the key issues. Also notable, had been the changes found in the new recommendations from the Consulting Team, which can be viewed on the following link under “Revised Land Use Recommendations,” “Addendum Report: Residential Uses At-Grade.” (hamilton.ca/CityDepartments/PlanningEcDev/Divisions/EcDevRealEstate/BartonKenilworthCommercialCorridorStudy.htm) The changes are significant in that, previously, there had been concerns from community members. Much of the data in the Kushman Wakefield report was found to rely on anecdotal evidence and visual surveys however we had been initially led to believe that the resident perspective was “opinion” and “anecdote” while Planning Partners info was “fact.” The concern was that, if this information was received by Council as presented, the report could then be used to develop future official plans that had desired outcomes based on a worldview of Hamilton as it was pre-2003. Also, there was doubt among residents, business owners, and community partners that “supply and demand” is the cause of vacancy on Barton/Kenilworth and that eliminating supply of commercial properties will revitalize the community. It seemed to be made clear to us that the Hamilton landscape has changed and so has the worldview of its residents and business owners. With the opportunities for input into development of the official plan happening only every five years or so, these were important issues. As mentioned, since, the Consulting Team has responded to the concerns in their new Addendum Report.
