Dear Lake Tahoe, (From Don Kanare) I would like to ask that - TopicsExpress

Dear Lake Tahoe, (From Don Kanare) I would like to ask that everyone send an e-mail to the U.S. Forest Service before June 6 requesting that INCLINE LAKE be restored to its former grandeur and that Alternative 3 is the preference of the general public. This link will take you to the U.S. Forest Service webpage where you can review the various documents and analysis concerning the Incline Lake project: insideincline/incline-village-real-estate-blog/incline-village-real-estate-update-june-2-2014/ One of the reasons that we are seeing so many bears in the developed parts of Incline Village during the past several years is due to the removal of the spillway gates where water flows out of the dam. This has resulted in the Lake turning into two small mosquito infested puddles and dramatically lowering the water table. As a result, most of the nearby vegetation that provided excellent forage for bears and other wildlife has pretty much disintegrated in the past few years. This lack of food is causing the bears to roam downhill in search of other food sources and they eventually wind up in the residential areas where they are trapped and usually euthanized by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. It is an absolute tragedy that the Nevada Department of Wildlife is routinely killing these gentle giants that are native to the Lake Tahoe basin. And it is even more unfortunate that many residents have not yet learned how to eliminate attractants such as putting out the trash too early, leaving food out on the deck and leaving garage doors open unattended. The bears are simply in search of food and with their incredible sense of smell they follow their nose to the nearest and most attractive source. Let’s get the dam rebuilt and the Lake restored so we can re-create the habitat that existed for the last several decades and help the bears migrate back to where they used to live. Thank you Don Kanare for your continued efforts in Keeping Tahoe Alive - Please bring back Incline Lake! #Tahoe #bears #wildlife #ndow #ivgid
