Dear Larry, The current Ebola crisis is escalating fast and your help is urgently needed. More than 1,300 people are dead across West Africa — including almost 100 health care workers — in the worst Ebola outbreak in history. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an international public health emergency. Entire areas have been quarantined in Liberia as the disease continues its deadly spread. Ebola is highly infectious, and kills 60% to 90% of those infected. There is no cure; there is no vaccine. You can only work to stop the spread of this infection, but hospitals and health care systems in the affected regions of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea are poorly equipped to do so. The health workers died because of inadequate protective equipment and supplies. More protective gear and supplies are vital in the fight against Ebola, and you can help provide them right now. AmeriCares has been working closely with our pharmaceutical donors since this outbreak began, supporting these health workers on the front lines. Shipments of urgently needed supplies and supportive care medicines to the affected areas are in transit, but we need your help to send more as this disease spreads. Please donate now to rush critically needed supplies to the front lines. Hundreds have already been killed by the outbreak, and hundreds more will die if we dont act immediately. Help us stop this deadly outbreak and humanitarian crisis. Sincerely, Michael J. Nyenhuis President & CEO, AmeriCares P.S. AmeriCares partners on the ground report continuous severe shortages of medical supplies such as protective gloves, facemasks and disinfectants. Supportive care medicines such as fluid replacement therapies are also in critical need. Please donate now to end this crisis in West Africa.
