Dear Lord of Football we come to you as pure mortals. We thank you for today, the return of all things glorious--professional football. Lord we ask that you protect these men from any and all serious injuries this season. Lord we ask for more great stories this year, stories that we will get to tell our children one day. We come to you not in our time of need but in a time of obsession. Obsessed with the possibilities of what may happen, who will break out this year, who will disappear from the sport, and what will end up captivating our hearts. Lord we know not who your favorite team is, but we ask from a new AFC East champion. Lord we ask all things Jim Harbaugh to fail. Lord we ask that you bless Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks with the talent to lead our city to the prolific title that is Super Bowl champions. We know you work in mysterious ways, but we ask that Cleveland, Kansas City, Tennessee and Buffalo find a way to be successful on the field and bring hope to their fans. We ask that this year you find a way to inspire fans both young and old, and unite our country in the amazing way football always seem to do. Football is not just a game anymore, it is so much more. Our Football God is an awesome god. Amen.
