Dear MSSA Friends, The short version is that by far the best candidate for the Montana Supreme Court is Lawrence VanDyke. Please spread this far and wide. Tell ALL of your friends. The longer version is this: MSSA has endorsed Van Dyke, and for good reason. VanDykes incumbent opponent, Justice Mike Wheat, was strongly anti-gun when he was in the Montana Senate. He worked, spoke, and voted against MSSAs pro-gun bills. He was the chief opponent in the Senate to MSSAs self defense bill that we finally got passed in 2009. Wheat was probably responsible for killing this important bill in one or two previous sessions. Plus, the Montana Supreme Court has been busy undercutting laws that MSSA has gotten through the Legislature. Wheat is always on the side of the MSC vote to undo changes in the law that MSSA has gotten through the Legislature and signed by the Governor (yes, even though the MSC isnt supposed to do that). VanDyke is one of us, Hes a gun owner, a hunter, and a competitive shooter. He also vows that if elected he wont try to make or unmake law, but to just interpret existing law, as a Supreme Court Justice should do. So, the most important race in Montana this election cycle, in my opinion, is the race for this particular seat on the Montana Supreme Court. Van Dyke is the good guy, clearly. Wheat is the bad guy, just as clearly. Again, please spread the word that all Montana gun owners should support Lawrence Van Dyke for the Montana Supreme Court.
