Dear Mary Portas / Portasagency Im very keen to read your latest report Why the High Street Still Matters. Ive even heard that youre promoting digital as part of the solution to keeping our High Streets vibrant. And Id really love to read about it. Except your 43 page reports is not readable on any kind of digital device due to your poxy formatting. Ive tried on my laptop, my tablet and my mobile to no avail. Sure, I can download the document, but because youve produced in A4 portrait, and all but a handful of pages in two columns, it means Im constantly scrolling up and down to be able to read it at all. Seriously though, if you want people to read on a laptop, theyre 99% likely to be viewing in landscape mode. Two, or even three columns in landscape mode is more comfortable on the eye. And for those of us reading on a tablet device, we really need to be able to view the words in a single column in portrait mode. That way, we can increase the font size to something more comfortable on the eye. And as for mobile phones, well, I guess thats an impossible ask to have something responsive. Hey ho. I guess Ill have to print it which costs me in time, ink, electricity and wear and tear on my printer. Oh yeah, and wasteful of paper too. Theres some irony in the fact that you see the future of the HIgh Street as being about the people and about digital yet your report is definitely people unfriendly and shows a lack of digital savvy.
