Dear Member /Friend, 7 November 2014 49th Anniversary Autumn Concert and Dinner The traditional Autumn Concert and Dinner organised annually by Din l-Art Helwa, has firmly established itself as one of the main highlights of Din l-Art Helwa’s social and cultural calender. Since this event is always very heavily booked, this year we opted for a more spacious venue and we thought that the elegant and ever popular Villa Arrigo is very befitting for such an occasion. This splendid villa is being made available to us thanks to the Directors of Villa Arrigo Limited and Osborne Caterers. This function is being held on Friday, 21st November. The concert will feature a harp and piano performance by world renowned German harpist Silke Aichhorn and the highly talented Russian pianist Sofia Narmania. They will regale the audience with fascinating works by Smetana, John Cheshire, Susan Mc Donald / Linda Wood, Bernard Andrès, Schubert, Bizet, Mozart & Chopin. This concert has been made possible by the generous sponsorship of Mr Heribert Grünert, a most valued life member and benefactor of Din l-Art Helwa. This is greatly appreciated especially in the run up to the 50th Anniversary of our Organisation. Silke Aichhorn is one of the most sought after German harpists. She performs extensively both as a soloist as well as in various chamber formations. She is widely applauded by the public and the critics. She has given concerts all over Europe, in Brazil, Thailand, Japan, Australia and the U.S.A. She is a frequent guest on radio and television programmes and has twenty CDs to her credit. Silke has been teaching music for twenty-nine years and gives master classes on a regular basis. Recently, together with flutist Prof Dejan Gavric, she had the privilege of giving a private concert for Pope Emeritus Benedikt XVI, which was aired on Vatican Radio. Sofia Narmania was born in the Republic of Abkhazia (USSR) within a family of musicians. At a very early age, she demonstrated her outstanding musicianship. At the age of ten,she performed Beethoven’s 2nd Piano Concerto with orchestra, to great public acclaim. She studied at the Moscow State Conservatoire where she also completed her post graduate education. She has won numerous awards and prizes in international prestigious piano competitions. Sofia has performed as a soloist with many orchestras and has given several recitals in the main halls of Moscow and other cities in the Russian Federation as well as in Greece, Holland, Germany and Malta. Her repertoire is vast, ranging from Scarlatti to modern day composers. Welcome drinks will be served at 7.15 p.m. and the concert will start at 8.00 p.m. After the concert, guests will be treated to a lavish gourmet dinner served by the competent Osborne Caterers. (Menu attached). Tickets cost €50 per person all inclusive. Dress Code is Lounge Suit. Those wishing to attend are requested to complete the attached form and send it together with their remittance addressed to Din l-Art Helwa, 133 Melita Street, Valletta, as early as possible. The Organising Committee looks forward to welcoming you and your friends to this very elegant and special occasion which augurs to be a most delighful evening for all.
