Dear Midwest Drivers, Why are you so nice to me when I drive my car but so uncaring when I ride my bike? When driving everyone waves hello, slow cars wave you by, fast cars give you room. When biking no one waves - ever; many people glare, some people honk at you, scream at you, try running you off the road, throw stuff at you; some people pull ahead of you and brake suddenly then spew black smog and gravel; people cut you off, and nobody gives you enough room. Does my cycling upset you? If so why? I am following all the rules of the road as is my right. I wave at every car I see - which I can assure you is harder for me to do than you lifting one finger or two off your steering wheel in your climate controlled interior. I see watch for motorcyclist bumper stickers and signs aplenty so why not show cyclists some similar respect? In short: please stop hating on everything you see which isnt a part of your daily routine and - perhaps - get your head out of your ass long enough to try going for a ride yourself... who knows you might even enjoy it. Happy Trails, C.R. Sanders
